Position Summary:
The Assistant Grower works with the Growers to organize and oversee the cannabis growing
schedule and quality. This role is responsible for assisting the growers in order to achieve
completion of production tasks and quality cannabis flower.
Broad Duties:
• Work with all area growers collaboratively to ensure quality and yields throughout the
growing process
• Work with Cultivation Supervisor to ensure team compliance with all standard operating
procedures (SOP’s), quality, sanitation and safety policies
• Track operational output measures (efficiency, yield loss, product quality inventory
accuracy)
• Participate in On-Call Weekend coverage
• Promote a positive team culture through clear communication and professional
behaviour.
• Continuous Improvement and Corrective Measure Participation
Cultivation & Production Tasks
• Maintain plant health and monitor for pests, diseases, and contamination risks.
• Responsible for monitoring the Grow Environment (Temperature, RH, CO2, lighting, fan
velocity, etc) for flowering rooms.
• Entering plant and room environmental health indicators and issues on jot forms and
other communication spreadsheets or software applications.
• Performing Grow Rounds / Scouting and data collection
• Ensure tissue samples are properly collected as per IPM scheduled testing
• Fertilizer and Pesticide Mixing
• Ensure Good Documentation Procedures are followed in the documentation of all
cultivation activities in Batch Production Records (BPR) and other forms.
• Work with all Growers to execute cultivation trials which could include tracking and
entering trial data and communication of trials to necessary personnel.
• Work with all Growers to track metrics and meet objectives of Key Performance
Indicators (KPI).
• Help with coverage of other departments during vacations and other absences
Quality & Compliance
• Follow federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, including the Cannabis Act.
• Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Agricultural Practices (GACP) and
AgMedica SOPs for safety, quality, and efficacy.
• Report potential hazards, production issues, or contamination risks to the Cultivation
Managers and/or Quality Assurance team.
Other Duties
• Carry out additional tasks assigned by the Growers
• Uphold all HR policies, including confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Post secondary diploma in horticulture or agriculture.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office programs.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Experience in commercial cannabis cultivation, greenhouse, or vegetable grow operations is
preferred.
- Knowledge of GACP standards is preferred.
- Demonstrated Integrated Pest Management knowledge, Pesticide Safety certification.
- Results oriented with ability to multi-task in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in basic math and English.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to identify risks.
- Commitment to following SOPs, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring safety.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg and push/pull carts.
- Manual dexterity for handling scissors, trimmers, and other tools.
- Required to stand, walk, balance, bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
- Close vision and the ability to work under intense lighting.
Working Conditions:
- Moderate to high noise levels in the work environment.
- Exposure to strong odors, humidity, pollen, molds, mildew, insects, plant debris, and
chemicals.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times. - Ability to work with all
forms of cannabis safely.
Training:
Mandatory and role-specific training will be provided (e.g., GMP, JHSC, WHMIS, HACCP, First Aid,
Pesticide/Insecticide).
Hours: M-F 7am-3:30pm, on call weekend coverage as required
Wage: $24-26 / hr based on experience
