Job Title: Farm Hand – Topsy Farms
Location: Amherst Island, Ontario
Duration: 8 weeks (35 hours per week)
Wage: $18.00 per hour
Job Description:
The Farm Hand will support the daily operations of Topsy Farms, a working sheep farm focused on sustainable agriculture, land stewardship, and community engagement. This position provides hands-on experience in small-scale farming, animal care, and property maintenance, while helping the applicant develop practical skills relevant to agriculture and rural business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the daily care and management of sheep and guardian dogs, including feeding, monitoring health, and maintaining clean and safe living conditions
Support lambing season activities (primary responsibility) as needed, including feeding lambs, field checks, and assisting with general care under supervision of shepherd Kyle
Perform general farm maintenance tasks such as fence repair, mowing, and basic building maintenance
Assist with pasture management and land stewardship activities, including clearing brush and maintaining walking trails
Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe farm environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors
Support other farm operations as required, including occasional assistance with events or public-facing activities
Optional (encouraged) gather media and work with Topsy’s social media team to document interesting day-to-day operations and get the applicants’ point of view

Supervision and Training:
The Farm Hand will be supervised by experienced farm staff and will receive on-the-job training in all aspects of their role. Regular check-ins and feedback will be provided to support skill development and ensure a positive learning experience.
Work Environment and Safety:

All tasks will be performed in accordance with established safety protocols.
Qualifications:
Interest in agriculture, animals, or outdoor work
Willingness to learn and take direction
Ability to perform physical tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Transportation to/ from the farm (or viable alternative)
Work boots - Ontario approved ‘green triangle’, steel-toed.
This position is well suited to a motivated individual interested in gaining hands-on experience in farming and contributing to a community-oriented agricultural enterprise.
