Research Interests

• My research interests cover a range of fruit and vegetable crops, both fresh and processing, which are prevalent in Southern Ontario.  In particular, season extension, environmental sustainability, and research to support new crops are a focus. 
• Vegetable crop research is completed on the Ridgetown Campus Research Farm, while fruit research takes place at the Cedar Springs Research Station

Fruit

• Improvement of Ontario hazelnut cultivars focusing on winter hardiness and pest tolerance, with an emphasis on management of Eastern Filbert blight 

• Development of cropping systems for soilless tabletop production of strawberries in Ontario 

• The Canadian Berry Trial Network 

• The next generation of tree fruits 

Vegetable

• Development of an upland rice production system in Ontario 

• Field Evaluation of NRC degradable mulch films in commercial jalapeno pepper production 

• Effectiveness of inoculants in green pea production on different soils and at different planting dates 

• Re-evaluating phosphorous and potassium management in green peas 

• Influence of plant population on green pea yield and quality 

• Re-evaluation of the optimum nitrogen rates in processing tomato production 

• On-farm multiplication of clean garlic seed using tissue-cultured roundels.
