Getting Involved

Get involved in campus activities and extracurriculars offered throughout the year!

Different opportunities are available, whether you’re interested in staying active, developing your leadership skills, meeting new people, or looking to enhance your resume. Many opportunities are sent out to students by email throughout the academic year.

Physical Fitness

Intramural Sports

There are a wide variety of organized intramural sports offered in the evenings during the week, throughout the fall and winter semesters. Opportunities include indoor soccer, ball hockey, ice hockey, badminton, public skating, bowling, curling, and many more. Students involved in intramurals also have the opportunity to participate in the OAC Winter Games, a fun weekend of competition with the OAC main campus students in a variety of sports.

Fitness Centre

Located on the lower level of Steckley Hall Residence, the fitness centre offers a space to work out, with cardio and weight machines as well as dumbbells.

Clubs & Committees

Student-Led Clubs

A few existing club opportunities include the Soil & Crop Club, Animal Behaviour Club, and the God on Tap Chaplaincy program. Students are encouraged to start a club if they have a common area of interest and would like to be a part of something new!

Committees

There are also many opportunities to join a student committee. Current opportunities include the Yearbook Committee, Student Recreation Committee, Spring Expo Committee, and the Social Committee.

Leadership Development

Peer Helper Program

A group of second year students that are available to provide other students with academic help and study sessions. One-on-one or small group sessions are available. Two students are selected from each program so program-specific support is available. Students are paid an honorarium each semester for being a Peer Helper.

Recruitment Ambassador Program

A group of students from all programs, in both first and second year, that assist with future student recruitment activities throughout the fall and winter semesters. Activities can include leading campus tours, assisting at open house events, public speaking, and meeting with industry professionals/special guests.

Student Government

Students are elected each year to be representatives, and the collective voice, of the student body. Student Government also plans events for students, many of which give back to local charities and organizations. Meetings are held weekly, and many different roles are available within Student Government.

Orientation Ambassador Program

Second year students are encouraged to get involved and assist with welcoming new students to the campus at the beginning of the academic year. These students help organize a variety of events to get first-year students meeting one another and acquainted with campus.

Special Events

Many different special events are held throughout the year, including Spring Expo, OAC Leadership Conference, Pub nights, and other opportunities:

Spring Expo

Student-planned event, usually held in March of each year, that includes different activities, including Livestock Shows (beef, dairy, sheep, pigs), Dog Agility Courses, BBQ, Equipment Show, and a Bake Sale.

OAC Leadership Conference

This conference is held at the Guelph campus on an annual basis in January and gives students the opportunity to network with other students, listen to guest speakers, and develop their leadership skills.

Pubs

Fun, social nights where students can get together to listen to music and dance. Pub nights are usually held on Thursday nights in the lower level of Willson Hall. All students are welcome to attend.
