What is the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)?
- OSAP is needs-based financial assistance provided by the federal and provincial governments
- Funding is made up of a combination of grants (funding that you do not have to pay back) and loans (funding that you do need to pay back)
How do I know if I'm able to apply for OSAP?
To be eligible to apply for OSAP, students must be:
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
- An Ontario resident
- Enrolled full-time in a diploma or certificate program
- Part-Time OSAP is also available for students studying at a reduced course load or in the Associate Diploma Veterinary Technology, Alternative Delivery program
How do I know if I am studying full-time?
- At Ridgetown Campus, you are a full-time student if you are taking at least 60% or more of your course load (i.e. 4 out of 6 courses or more)
- Students with documented permanent disabilities are considered full-time if they are taking a 40% or more of a course load (i.e. 3 out of 6 courses)
Part-Time OSAP
- Available for students studying at a course load between 20% and 59% (ex. 2 or 3 courses out of 6 with no permanent disability status)
- Applied to on a semesterly basis (ex. 1 application for the fall semester and 1 application for the winter semester)
Note: Students in the Veterinary Technology Alternative program are eligible for part-time OSAP in the fall and winter semesters and full-time OSAP in the summer semester
Submitting Your Application
- Applications are completed online at ontario.ca/osap once the application opens for the year you are starting your studies in
- The full-time application is expected to open in the Spring each year, and the part-time application in the early Summer
- Students are encouraged to apply for OSAP at least 6-8 weeks before the start of the fall semester to avoid any delays
Application Deadlines
- Full-Time OSAP: 60 days before the end of your study period
- Supporting document and review submission deadline: 40 days before the end of your study period
- Part-Time OSAP: 40 days before the end of your study period
- Supporting document and review submission deadline: 40 days before the end of your study period
