Eligibility

The health and dental plans were approved by student referendum and as a result, are now a requirement of your enrolment at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus. The plans provide protection and security for eligible students minimizing the effects of injury or ailments. The cost of the plans is included in your institutional fees provided you meet the eligibility enrolment criteria:

  1. are a full-time student taking more than three courses at Ridgetown Campus,
  2. are in an applicable program,
  3. you meet the full-time criteria for your program,
  4. are residing in Canada, and
  5. are under the age of 70

If you are unsure about whether or not you are eligible for the Student Health and Dental plan, please contact the Student Benefit Plan Office prior to any applicable deadlines.

Opt-Out

If you are already covered for health and dental services under an insurance plan you can apply to ‘opt-out’ of the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus Student Health & Dental Plan. Provincial health plans (i.e. OHIP) are not considered comparable coverage.

2018-19 Academic Year Opt-Out Deadline: Friday September 28, 2018

Please note that you must pay for the Health and Dental Plan first as part of your total student fees, and you will receive a credit on your student account in November if you are exempted from the plan.

Reduced Course Load

Students with accessibility needs who are taking a part-time course load but may be eligible to opt in to the Student Health and Dental Plan. Please contact the Student Benefits Plan Office for further details, prior to the applicable deadline for your semester period of enrolment.

Coverage Period

For eligible students starting in the fall semester, coverage begins September 1st and ends August 31st provided there has been no change in your eligibility status from the fall to the winter semester. In cases where there has been a status change, coverage may end December 31st. For eligible students starting in the winter semester, coverage begins January 1st and ends August 31st.

New eligible students will be added to the health and dental plan approximately 45 days from the start date of your program. Please keep your receipts for eligible expenses incurred during this time period for submission to the insurance carrier upon completion of the enrolment process.

Returning eligible students may continue to access the health and dental plan without disruption by using their current myBenefits Card or by submitting reimbursement claims directly to the insurance carrier.
