PURPOSE OF POSITION:

• Contribute to the development of temporary exhibits, work with the museum’s
collection, and help ensure alignment of displays with education programming.
• Assist with public programming, outreach activities, and special events hosted by the Communications, Outreach, and Education Team of Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.
• Provide thematic interpretation of the conservation and environmental issues, as well as Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum.
• Assist with the daily operations of the Resource Centre / Ska-Nah-Doht Museum

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A friendly and helpful disposition
• Experience working with the public
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Ability to provide information and respond to questions in a professional manner
• An interest in the environment, history, or geography; pursuit of a post-secondary degree in a related field considered an asset
• Comfortable using a variety of computer software
• Ability to work on your own as well as within a team environment
• Demonstrate initiative and time management skills
• Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities
• Numeracy skills and the ability to operate a cash register and point of sale machine
• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments with some exposure to allergens, pests, and inclement weather
• Current First Aid and CPR Certification considered an asset
• Must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility criteria. To be eligible, youth must:
• Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements:
o be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
o be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the
duration of the employment (international students are not eligible participants);
o have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and• Must be able to provide a Police Records Check

This is a full-time, seasonal contract, running for 8 weeks throughout the summer of 2026.
Weekend work will be required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Contribute to the development of temporary exhibits for installation at the Museum.
• Work with the museum’s collection and assist with collections storage projects.
• Help ensure alignment of displays with education programming.
• Assist with the endeavours of the Communications, Outreach, and Education Team of the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, such as public programming, outreach activities, and special events
• Provide site orientation and visitor services to the public visiting Longwoods Road Conservation Area and Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum
• Assist with the daily operations of the Resource Centre / Ska-Nah-Doht Museum
• Inform visitors about the features of the conservation area
• Provide thematic interpretation of the conservation and environmental issues, as well as Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum
• Engage the public on topics related to conservation and Indigenous culture
• Provide interactive conservation and heritage activities
• Assist with guided hikes
• Participate in the delivery of special events and programs
• Develop and complete an interest specific work project
• Assist with the creation of digital and social media content
• Respond to visitor inquiries and direct site visitors both in-person and by telephone
• Assist with gift shop sales
• Maintain accurate cash accounting
• Document daily sales and attendance at the Resource Centre and Ska-Nah-Doht Museum
• Maintain Resource Centre / Ska-Nah-Doht Museum and outdoor kiosk in a clean and organized manner at all times, including exhibits, informational pamphlets, and work areas
• Provide feedback to supervisor and co-workers regarding Resource Centre / Ska-Nah-Doht Museum operations and issues on a regular and timely basis

COMPENSATION & HOURS:

Wage: $17.60/hour

Weekly Hours: Generally, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekend and some evening work required, 35 hours/week

Vacation Time: The employee shall be eligible for all statutory holidays and 4% vacation pay in lieu of paid vacation
