DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

As a member of the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority Lands team, you will have the following responsibilities and tasks;
• Responsible for helping campers within CM Wilson Conservation Area with their daily requests to help provide a safe and enjoyable stay. There is an opportunity for the youth to develop and present activities to the cliental with the assistance of the Western District Supervisor.
• Use of power tools and will assist in repairs, renovations, and other minor projects. Your input will be encouraged and acknowledged.
• Help contribute to an inclusive and positive workspace at the CM Wilson Workshop.
• Assist in the maintenance of 18 different properties in the Western District of the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority. This includes grass maintenance and trail work.
• There will be an opportunity to assist other departments within the Conservation Authority such as; Watershed Monitoring, and Stewardship.
• Assisting in day to day health and safety checks to help underlie the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
• Assisting in the day to day maintenance of CM Wilson Conservation Area, task would include; cleaning bathrooms, trail work, cutting and trimming grass, and ensuring the area is tidy and free of debris.
• Participating in the removal of invasive species, such as phragmites.
• Assisting the Western District Supervisor and Lead hand in the maintenance of Flood Control Structures.
• Must be ready to work in a dynamic workplace which offers a variety of different experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must meet the following requirements:

• Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (international students are not eligible participants);
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

• Provide police clearance check
• Experience with basic grounds maintenance equipment
• Excellent communication skills, maintaining good public and personnel relations
• Able to deal with people sensitively and professionally at all times
• Current First Aid Certificate- Standard and CPR an asset
• Able to work well under pressure
• Flexible, able to deal with change
• Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
• Valid G Drivers License

COMPENSATION & HOURS:

Wage: $17.60/ hour
Full Time Seasonal position with from Monday – Friday, 8am-4:30pm, 40 hours a week. June 22nd to August 10th (8 weeks)
