Job Description
Blythe Brae Farms is a diversified family grain farm in Oxford County. In this experience you will develop skills relating to crop production as you support our farm in a variety of tasks throughout the cropping season. Blythe Brae wants to encourage youth in agriculture and will provide training and enrichment opportunities throughout the internship.
Assist our team during the critical planting and harvest period in the field and at the grain elevator. Activities may include grain receiving and shipping, grain grading, picking up supplies, moving combine head with a trailer, operation of grain drying equipment, scouting of crops and operation of field equipment.
Become the team lead for farm equipment technology operation including precision agriculture. Learn about GPS technology and work with third-party equipment suppliers to troubleshoot issues during planting and harvest.
Farm maintenance including sweeping and other physical tasks.
Full-time position, sometimes with long days and evenings and weekends when needed. We live by the weather during planting and harvest time so if you are seeking a fixed schedule only, this role is not for you. On-farm accommodation for the intern may be available if needed.
Job Skill Requirements
Student working towards completion of post-secondary education in an agriculture related field
Interest in grain farming and agronomy
Ability to work safely in accordance with training provided
Available to work for entire cropping season including evenings/weekends (weather dependent) as needed
Class G or G2 drivers license
Strong communication skills
Ability to learn new technologies. Experience with agricultural GPS software such as Case IH FieldOps, JD Operations Centre or AgLeader SMS an asset
Experience with farm equipment operation an asset
