Graduation Information 2018

Before Graduation Day

Graduates MUST RSVP for Graduation Between May 3, 2018 and May 21, 2018

  • If a graduate is not able to attend the ceremony, an RSVP is still required
  • The link to RSVP for graduation can be found on our website under Current Students
  • Graduation tickets will be received electronically; graduates are required to print their tickets and bring them to the ceremony to be admitted
  • Four tickets will be allocated to each graduate. You may request additional guest tickets and your name will be placed on a waitlist
  • If you are not aware of the guests coming for graduation at the time of RSVP, please put the guest names as: Guest 1, Guest 2, Guest 3, Guest 4, so tickets can be generated
  • Students who are NOT eligible to graduate or who did not apply to graduate will not be able to RSVP. Please contact the Campus Registrar, Barb O’Neill, if you have any questions or concerns about being eligible to graduate. baoneill@uoguelph.ca or 519-674-1500 ext. 63610

Parking at Graduation

  • Parking is free and available in various parking lots throughout the campus
  • Parking attendants will be on site to direct guests to available parking spaces
  • Street parking on Main St (in front of campus) is NOT permitted on either side of the road
  • Overflow parking will be available at the Ridgetown Arena (180 Main St. E; 5-minute walk to campus)

Order Your Graduation Frames (Diploma/Certificate and Photo)

  • Graduating students will be emailed an order form for diploma/certificate frames and graduation portrait photo frames
  • Pre-order deadline for frames is Friday May 4, 2018
  • Ordered frames will be available for pick-up before and after the graduation ceremony. Direct shipping is available for an extra fee
  • Please contact Alison McMahon at rcampus@uoguelph.ca, or at 519-674-1500 ext. 63256 if you have any questions or concerns about your order

Order Your Graduation Flowers

  • You can pre-order bouquets of flowers for your graduate through Convocation Flowers
  • Pre-order deadline is Thursday, May 31, 2018
  • Flowers can also be purchased onsite before and after the ceremony
  • Graduates will not be permitted to carry their bouquets in with them to the ceremony. Please present your graduate with their flowers after the completion of the ceremony

About Graduation Day

BEFORE THE CEREMONY BEGINS (from 12:45 PM – 1:50 PM)

For Graduates:

  • Graduates are required to arrive on-campus by 12:45 PM to pick up their gown and prepare for the ceremony in the lower level of the Pestell Student Services & Alumni Centre (Classroom 002)
  • Staff volunteers will be available to help you put on your gown
  • There is no secure storage space for your personal items, so we recommend that you leave personal items with one of your guests during the ceremony (purses, coats, cameras, cellphones, backpacks etc.)

For RSVP’d Parents & Guests

  • Doors to the Rural Development Centre and Pestell Auditorium will open at 12:45 PM, giving parents and guests the opportunity to select seats for the ceremony
  • The ceremony will be held in our air-conditioned auditorium with seating for 750 guests
  • There will be reserved seating for graduates and award donors, which will be marked accordingly

Graduation Frame Pick-Up

  • You will have the opportunity to pick up your grad frame pre-order in the RDC Foyer between 12:45 PM and 1:45 PM
  • Staff will also have a small inventory of frames in-stock for day-of sales. For best selection, please pre-order!
  • Staff will again be available from 4:00PM - 5:00PM in the RDC foyer to pick up your graduate’s frame order(s)
  • If you do not pick-up your frame by 5:00 PM, please contact Alison McMahon at rcampus@uoguelph.ca or 519-674-1500 ext. 63256 to discuss your pick-up/shipping options

Graduation Flower Pick-Up

  • You will have the opportunity to pick up your grad flowers pre-order in the RDC Foyer between 12:45 PM and 1:45 PM
  • Convocation Flowers will also have a selection of bouquets that can be purchased onsite. All methods of payment are available (credit, debit, and cash)
  • Convocation Flowers will be available after the ceremony, between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, for graduation flowers pre-order pick-up

Celebrate with Social Media

  • You can celebrate the day by tweeting about the event or your graduate by using #UGRCGrad2018

DURING THE CEREMONY (1:50 PM – 4:00 PM)

The Graduation Procession

  • We encourage guests to be seated by 1:50 PM before our graduation procession begins
  • The graduation procession (distinguished guests, faculty, and graduates) will make their way up the centre aisle to their seats and the stage

Crossing the Stage, Photo Opportunity, and Returning to Your Seating Area

  • There is not time for graduates to stop on the stage as they receive their diploma or certificate
  • If you wish to take a picture of your graduate, you can come to the front as they are crossing the stage, but they are not able to stop and pose
  • After crossing the stage, graduates will return to the seating area

AFTER THE CEREMONY ENDS (4:00 – 5:00 PM)

Invitation to the Garden Party

  • Following the Graduation Ceremony, graduates and their guests are invited to a reception outside of the Rural Development Centre (weather permitting)
  • If there is inclement weather, the Garden Party will be held in the Rural Development Centre
  • Light refreshments will be provided to all graduates and guests

Time for Family and Friend Photos

  • Following graduation, you are invited to take photos with family and friends
  • The campus will have props and signs at the Garden Party to enhance your photos

Return Your Gown and Pick Up Your Diploma/Certificate and/or Graduation Photo

  • Graduates are to return their gowns to the same location that they picked them up (Classroom 002 of the Pestell Student Services & Alumni Centre)
  • Graduates will be required to fill out a brief survey before receiving their diploma or certificate. Graduates will receive a complimentary gift upon completion of the survey
  • If you received a graduation award, your folder will contain an addressed, postage paid thank you card. You are encouraged to write a short thank-you note in the card for your donor following the graduation ceremony

AFTER GRADUATION DAY AT RIDGETOWN CAMPUS

If You Were Unable to Attend Graduation

  • Graduates who were unable to attend the Graduation Ceremony will have their diploma/certificate Purolated to them
  • Please ensure that we have your most up-to-date address including your full 911 address (house number and street name)
