Research Interests
My research program investigates the epidemiology, detection, and integrated management of economically significant diseases in field crops, with a primary focus on corn, soybean, and wheat production systems in Ontario. I specialize in developing sustainable, scientifically grounded strategies that reduce disease-related yield losses, improve grain quality, and mitigate food safety risks, particularly those associated with mycotoxin contamination.
Through the integration of field-based research, laboratory diagnostics, and data-driven analytics, my research aims to explain pathogen dynamics under varying environmental and agronomic conditions. A key focus is to develop and validate innovative disease detection technologies and refine the integrated disease management (IDM) strategies that support climate-adaptive and resource-efficient crop production systems.
My program is strongly collaborative, engaging stakeholders across the agri-food value chain including producers, industry partners, and regulatory agencies to translate research findings into practical, scalable solutions. I am committed to advancing applied plant pathology through interdisciplinary partnerships spanning plant genetics, soil microbiome research, pest ecology, and digital agriculture.
A core objective of my program is to train the next generation of scientists in translational plant pathology, equipping them with the skills to address both current and emerging challenges in crop health and sustainable food production.
