Industry Certification & Work Experience Opportunities

Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management (BBRM) Degree

Experiential Learning Credit
  • Required by all students
  • Students will complete one experiential education credit through industry work experience between semesters 4 to 7


Agriculture Diploma

Summer Work Experience in the Netherlands
  • Optional
  • Co-ordinated by Ridgetown Campus Staff along with the Agency for Agricultural Exchange and Study Tours in the Netherlands
  • Experiential Learning Credit earned towards diploma
Experiential Learning Credit
  • Optional
  • Completed between years 1 & 2
  • Students gain industry experience, as well as mentoring from employer and instructor
Grower Pesticide Safety Course Exam
  • Students must be enrolled in the Applied Weed Science Elective course to write this exam


Environmental Management Diploma

Ministry of the Environment (MOE) – Operator in Training Certification
  • Prepares students to write the MOE Operator in Training (OIT) Certifications in one to four categories including; water, water treatment, sewage, and waste water.
Nutrient Management Planning and Preparation
  • Completed as part of the Nutrient Management Selective course
  • Complete the key learning objectives of the OMAFRA – Fundamentals of Nutrient Management Course
  • Helps prepare students to prepare their own Nutrient Management Plans
Semester 4 Industry Placement
  • Optional
  • Completed as part of Environmental Management Externship course
  • One day per week
  • Working in a waste management or water treatment plant OR working with a conservation authority or conservation group, or related industry


Horticulture Diploma

Summer Work Experience in the Netherlands
  • Optional
  • Co-ordinated by Ridgetown Campus Staff along with the Agency for Agricultural Exchange and Study Tours in the Netherlands

Experiential Learning Credit
  • Optional
  • Completed between years 1 & 2
  • Students gain industry experience, as well as mentoring from employer and instructor
Ministry of the Environment Exterminator’s License
  • Recommended to all students – 15 different class options
  • Recommend completing Landscape Class
  • Complete study materials in-class, prepared to write the MOE Certification Exams
  • Students can also complete the Pesticide Technician Program, allowing them to work under supervision for a licensed technician.


Veterinary Technology Diploma

4 Week Externship
  • Completed in Semester 4
  • Completed in a Veterinary hospital or location with practicing veterinarian on staff
  • Must pass essential skills as a pre-requisite
